W5ESE Culberson County Backpack-pedition
Here's a map showing Scott's planned location in Culberson County right
up next to the New Mexico border in far west Texas. Use the View Larger

in to the terrain version for a good view of Scott's ridgeline QTH at
Pine Top Camp.
That QTH implies that he will be at the tree line looking out at the
tops of the pine trees but Scott indicates he'll actually be below the
tree line because he needs something to support those wire antennas and
to provide some shelter. Scott will have the distinction of being the
highest Texas station in
the 2008 TQP and will undoubtedly be using the smallest, lightest,
radio of any TQP station -- an AT Sprint 3 housed in the favorite
enclosure of QRP ops -- an Altoids flip top can.
Smallness and lightness will be a definite virtue considering that
he will have a 4.3-mile hike with an elevation change of
approximately 2300 feet. I hope Scott will find room in the backpack for a
(lightweight) camera to bring back some photos for those flatlanders among the TQP party goers to enjoy.
